In the digital age, smartphones, tablets, and laptops are everywhere. While these tools are incredible for learning, they are also the ultimate distraction. How can parents help their children strike a balance?
Quality Over Quantity
Not all screen time is equal. Spending an hour researching a science project on YouTube is productive. Spending an hour endlessly scrolling through social media is not. Monitor what your child is doing on their screens, not just how long they are on them.
Implement "Tech-Free" Zones
Establish rules in the house. For example, no phones at the dinner table, and absolutely no screens in the bedroom after 9 PM. The blue light emitted by screens suppresses melatonin, severely disrupting a child's sleep cycle.
Be a Role Model
Children mimic their parents. If you are constantly checking your phone during family time, your child will learn that this is acceptable behavior. Put your phone away and engage in active conversation.
